I ❤️ Siquijor 2024 - San Juan Beach - Day 3 - 09/13/2024
Sunshine Girls and the Typhoon-Tossed Travels of Siquijor 2024
Siquijor, the island of fire, was supposed to be a haven of sun-kissed beaches and turquoise waters. We, the Sunshine Girls, had arrived with dreams of blissful swims and sun-drenched naps. However, as fate would have it, the island had other plans, plans that involved a rather persistent typhoon and a whole lot of rain.
Our adventure began at Bucafe, a charming little eatery with delicious food and a view that promised a beautiful day. But as we finished our meal, the heavens opened, and the rain poured down like a waterfall. We waited, hoping for a break, for a glimpse of sunshine, for a chance to explore the island's famed Paliton Beach. Two hours later, with our hopes dwindling faster than the dwindling rain, we decided to move on.
Our guide, a seasoned Siquijor local, suggested Kawayan Resort, a haven of peace and tranquility. But alas, the resort was closed, a victim of the typhoon's wrath. Undeterred, we headed to Paliton Beach, our spirits still clinging to the hope of a swim.
The sight that greeted us was a far cry from the idyllic images we had envisioned. The beach, once a pristine stretch of sand, was battered and bruised, the waves crashing against the shore with a ferocity that made our hearts sink. We were the only tourists in sight, a testament to the typhoon's power. It was clear that a swim was out of the question, and the thought of being stranded in a storm-ravaged beach wasn't exactly appealing.
Our guide, ever the optimist, suggested a trip to the port area, where the waves were calmer. We were hesitant, but the promise of a dip in the ocean, even a brief one, was too tempting to resist. As we arrived, the rain had miraculously stopped, and the waves were as calm as a mirror. We plunged into the water, feeling the cool, refreshing embrace of the ocean, and for a fleeting moment, we forgot about the typhoon.
Thirty minutes later, we reluctantly emerged from the water, our spirits lifted but our thirst for adventure still unquenched. Day 2 had been a rollercoaster of emotions, a whirlwind of disappointment and unexpected joy. But the Sunshine Girls, true to our name, remained optimistic.
The afternoon brought with it a ray of sunshine, a sign that the storm was finally beginning to subside. Although most tourist spots had closed due to the bad weather, we were determined to make the most of our remaining time. We explored the island, discovering hidden gems and experiencing the true spirit of Siquijor, an island that, despite its challenges, still held a charm that was impossible to resist.
Our Siquijor adventure may not have gone exactly as planned, but it was an adventure nonetheless. We learned that even in the face of adversity, there's always something to be grateful for, and that sometimes, the unexpected detours can lead to the most memorable experiences.
