Siargao 2023: Day 1 - From 4 AM Bus to Bliss (and a Jollibee Pit Stop)
Alright, folks, buckle up because this is the tale of my epic journey to Siargao, a tale that began with a 4 AM bus ride and ended with the salty kiss of the sea breeze. It's a story of buses, bikes, and a whole lot of Jollibee, so grab your sunscreen and your sense of humor, because we're about to embark on a wild ride.
My adventure started in the heart of Quezon Province, where I boarded a bus that could only be described as a rolling freezer. The air conditioning was so powerful, it felt like I was stepping into a giant refrigerator. The music was a chaotic blend of pop hits and local ballads, and the air was thick with the scent of sweat and excitement.
After what felt like an eternity of honking and weaving through traffic, I finally arrived in Magallanes, Makati, specifically Alphaland. My next challenge was to navigate the city's infamous traffic, and let me tell you, it was a journey of its own. I opted for an Angkas ride, a motorcycle taxi service that's the best option to navigate the Manila traffic. It was a smooth ride, a welcome change from the chaotic bus journey.
Finally, I arrived at NAIA 4, the gateway to my island paradise. Before checking in, I indulged in another Jollibee feast. My stomach was rumbling by this point, so I decided to treat myself to a classic Filipino comfort food: Jollibee. It's a national treasure, and I'm not even exaggerating. The sweet and savory chicken joy, the crispy fries, and the sweet-and-sour spaghetti – it was the perfect pre-flight fuel. I checked in, bid farewell to the mainland, and boarded my plane. The flight was short and sweet, offering breathtaking views of the Philippine archipelago. As the plane descended towards Sayak Airport, I could already feel the island's magic working its spell.
The moment I stepped off the plane, I was greeted by the warm embrace of the Siargao air. It was a symphony of salty air, tropical flowers, and the rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the shore. I was instantly transported to a world of tranquility and beauty.
A van awaited me, ready to whisk me away to my temporary home: Isola del Sole Hotel. The hotel was a tropical oasis, with lush greenery, a sparkling pond with koi fish, and a view of the ocean that took my breath away. After settling in, I was ready for an island feast.
Dinner was at Tropical Temple Resort, a local favorite known for its delicious Filipino cuisine. I opted for the spicy chicken sisig, a sizzling dish of pork belly, onions, and chili peppers. It was a culinary masterpiece, a perfect blend of heat and flavor.
As I rest in my own bed in the loft, I knew this was just the beginning of an unforgettable adventure. Siargao, you've already stolen my heart, and I can't wait to see what you have in store for me.
