Day 4: Siquijor's Typhoon Tango (and a Greasy Food Fiesta)
Ah, Siquijor. The island that promised adventure, relaxation, and maybe even a glimpse of the mythical "Siquijor magic." Instead, it delivered a typhoon, a cancelled ferry, and a whole lot of greasy food.
We woke up at the ungodly hour of 3 AM, not to the sound of chirping birds or crashing waves, but to the howling wind and the rhythmic drumming of rain on our roof. The typhoon, a mischievous little gremlin named "Typhoon Whatever," had decided to make Siquijor its playground.
Now, the Sunshine Girls (that's us, in case you didn't know) are known for our sunny disposition. We're the kind of people who see the good in everything, even a typhoon. So, with our trademark optimism, we packed our bags, grabbed our few extra snacks, and headed to the port at 6 AM, hoping against hope that a ferry would magically appear.
But alas, the rumors were true. The ferry was cancelled. All trips, cancelled. It was like a bad dream, except instead of waking up, we were stuck on a tiny island with a hungry stomach and a growing sense of dread.
Devastated, we wandered outside, seeking solace in the form of food. I, being the queen of comfort eating, ordered extra rice and anything remotely greasy. It was a stress-eating frenzy, and I wasn't even ashamed. I mean, when you're facing a typhoon, a little extra oil is the least of your worries.
We trudged back to the hotel, our spirits as damp as our clothes. We were forced to extend our stay, which wasn't a bad thing, except that it meant we were moved to a different room. And that's when Murphy's Law decided to play its hand. My phone, a faithful companion on our travels, decided to take a dive into the world of broken screens.
I'm not sure if it was the stress, the typhoon, or the sheer amount of greasy food I had consumed, but I felt a wave of frustration wash over me. But then, I took a deep breath, reminded myself that things could be worse (like, being stuck on a boat during a typhoon), and decided to embrace the situation. I went to our new room, snuggled into the bed, and let the exhaustion take over.
So, Day 4 of our Siquijor adventure turned out to be a day of unexpected twists and turns. It wasn't the day we planned, but it was certainly a day we wouldn't forget. And hey, at least we got to eat a lot of greasy food.
