I ❤️ Siquijor 2024 - Bucafe - Day 3 - 09/13/2024

Bucafe: Where the Coffee's Small, the Views are Big, and the Rain is Always a Guest

Siquijor, you fickle mistress, you. One minute you're showering us with sunshine and smiles, the next you're unleashing a typhoon-fueled deluge. And on this particular day, you decided to unleash your fury upon us as we embarked on a pilgrimage to the legendary Bucafe.

Now, Bucafe is not your typical roadside diner. It's a bit of a trek, nestled in the hills about an hour's drive from the bustling center of town. We arrived, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, at 7:30 am, only to find the cafe closed with no sign of staff yet. The cafe, though humble and homey, boasts a view that's anything but. It's the kind of vista that makes you want to grab your phone and start snapping Instagram-worthy shots. The promise of a breathtaking panorama, a canvas of emerald green forest meeting the azure expanse of the Siquijor coastline, beckoned us forward.

The cafe itself is a charming blend of rustic and modern, with exposed wooden beams, comfy wicker chairs, and colorful throw pillows scattered across the floor. The walls are adorned with local artwork, giving the place a warm and inviting feel. I imagine in busy and great weather that the smell of coffee lingers in the air, adding to the cafe's charm. The overall mood is one of relaxed tranquility, a perfect escape from the island's sometimes chaotic energy.

The typhoon, however, had other plans. It was already making its presence felt, with winds whipping through the trees and rain lashing down like a thousand tiny needles. The cafe, however, opened promptly at 8 am, welcoming us with the politeness of the staff.

We were the first customers, which meant we had the entire place to ourselves, a perfect opportunity to capture the cafe's quirky charm. The spider web seat, adorned with phallic stuff toys, was a particular favorite. I swear I took more photos of that seat than I did of my office.

The rain, unfortunately, was a bit of a buzzkill. It obscured the lush green forest and the stunning coastline, leaving us with a slightly blurry, misty view. But hey, that's Siquijor for you – a land where even the weather has a sense of humor.

We ordered our food, and while the prices were reasonable, the serving sizes left us feeling slightly cheated. The coffee, in particular, was a tiny little cup, barely enough to quench the thirst of a hummingbird. But hey, maybe we were paying for the view, right?

The food, however, was surprisingly good. The flavors were fresh, the ingredients were local, and the presentation was simple but appetizing. We left Bucafe feeling full, satisfied, and slightly damp.

Despite the rain, the typhoon, and the tiny coffee cups, I'd say Bucafe is a must-visit for any Siquijor traveler. It's a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the island, soak in the stunning views, and enjoy a delicious meal. Just be sure to pack an umbrella and maybe a few extra photos of that spider web seat. You know, for the 'gram.

And who knows, maybe next time I visit, the sun will be shining and the coffee cups will be overflowing. But even if it's raining cats and dogs, I'll still be back. Because Bucafe, with its quirky charm, breathtaking views, and cozy atmosphere, is a place that stays with you long after you've left.
