Exploring the Beauty of Kawasan Falls: A Memorable Adventure in Badian

During my trip to Cebu in 2023, one of the highlights was visiting the picturesque Kawasan Falls in Badian. After a long journey of 5 hours from Cebu City, my travel companion and I checked into our hotel in Moalboal. Eager to witness the beauty of Kawasan Falls, we rented a tricycle to take us to Badian, the jump-off point for this natural wonder. In this blog entry, I will share my experience of visiting Kawasan Falls, including the journey, the guide, and the breathtaking scenery.

After a scenic 30-minute tricycle ride from Moalboal, we arrived in Badian at 3 pm. Fortunately, a local tour guide volunteered to accompany us on our adventure. Initially skeptical about the cost, I candidly asked the guide how much we should pay. To my surprise, he left it up to us, so I decided to give him 200 pesos since there were two of us. With our guide by our side, we embarked on a 15-minute walk, marveling at the stunning views of the river and surrounding trees.

Our guide informed us that the area had undergone significant changes due to a recent typhoon. Despite the devastation, the place was showing signs of recovery. As we made our way towards the falls, we were required to attend a seminar-like introduction conducted by the tourism office. They provided us with essential information, including dos and don'ts, as well as emergency procedures. We learned that there are three stages of the falls, which can be explored through the canyoneering package.

After a short walk, we reached stage 1 of Kawasan Falls. Standing at 10 meters high, the waterfall was a sight to behold, although not particularly spectacular. The water was cool, albeit slightly cloudy. If you simply wanted to enjoy a swim, stage 1 was sufficient, as stages 2 and 3 were not accessible for viewing or photography due to line restrictions. Unfortunately, due to ongoing construction work, the water wasn't as clear as it could have been.

To ensure the safety of visitors, life vests were provided free of charge and were mandatory to wear. Our guide informed us that the government now oversees the operations, and it was evident that the entire experience was well-organized. We spent an hour at the falls, taking in the beauty of the surroundings before heading back to the jump-off point to catch the bus back to Moalboal, where our hotel was located. We were fortunate to have made it in time, as the cut-off time was at 4 pm, allowing us to include this memorable experience in our itinerary for the day.

Visiting Kawasan Falls in Badian was an unforgettable adventure. Despite the changes caused by the recent typhoon, the natural beauty of the falls and the surrounding area still captivated us. From the refreshing waters of stage 1 to the organized operation overseen by the government, every aspect of our visit was well-managed. If you find yourself in Cebu, I highly recommend adding Kawasan Falls to your itinerary for a truly immersive and awe-inspiring experience.
