I ❤️ Siquijor 2024 - Cambugahay Falls - Day 2 - Wet Tour - 09/12/2024

A Wet and Wild Adventure at Cambugahay Falls: Sunshine Girls Conquer Siquijor, One Rope Swing at a Time

Siquijor 2024. The rain was relentless, a constant downpour that threatened to dampen our spirits and our meticulously planned itinerary. We, the Sunshine Girls, were determined to make the most of our fully paid trip, even if it meant embracing a little bit of wet adventure. Our first stop, unfortunately, was a bit of a let-down, but we weren't about to let that ruin our trip. We pressed on, our hearts set on Cambugahay Falls in Lazi.

The rain was still pouring as we made our way to the falls, a cloud of doubt hovering over us. Would the tour be canceled? Would we be forced to retreat back to our hotel, defeated by the elements? But the Sunshine Girls are a force to be reckoned with. We held onto hope, our positive vibes radiating outwards, manifesting a break in the clouds.

It took us almost 30 minutes to reach the falls, battling the cold wind and relentless rain. We paid our 50-peso entrance fee and were greeted by a friendly tour guide who led us down the path towards the river. Before reaching the falls, we faced a daunting 180-step descent, a test for our aging muscles. But the anticipation of the falls kept us moving, our determination fueled by the promise of adventure.

Reaching the bottom, we were greeted by a murky river. I'd seen pictures of Cambugahay Falls, its water crystal clear, a magical place. But here, the water was a milky brown, a stark contrast to the images that had captivated my imagination. Yet, as I looked at the three-tiered cascading falls, surrounded by lush forest, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. The beauty was undeniable, even in the murky water.

We were ready for action. Cambugahay Falls offered two main activities: bamboo rafting and rope swinging. As the Sunshine Girls, we couldn't resist the thrill of both. We opted for the lower, 5-meter rope swing, a wise choice considering our aging muscles. As we reached the last tier of the falls, the murky water served as a reminder of our shared determination. "Let's do this!" we declared, stripping down to our swimming attire, which was already drenched from the rain.

My first attempt at the rope swing was a nerve-wracking experience. I struggled to understand the rapid instructions from the rope swing staff, my mind racing with a mix of excitement and fear. "Listen carefully," the staff warned, "or you might end up with a 'Story of Loss in Siquijor.'" I'm a visual learner, so I was grateful when the staff showed me how to do it. Our tour guide, a talented photographer, captured our every move, even attempting a "human drone" shot for an extra special touch. As I swung and jumped into the water, the feeling was exhilarating. Liberating. I did it four times, determined to get that perfect "human drone" video.

After we all conquered the rope swing, we boarded a bamboo raft, enjoying the tranquility of the falls and capturing more photos. Two hours flew by, filled with laughter, adventure, and the satisfaction of conquering the elements.

The ascent back up the 180 steps was a challenge, but we persevered, fueled by the memory of our shared triumph. We refueled with an early lunch at a canteen near the exit before hopping on a native trike, ready for our next destination. As we departed, the rain finally stopped, a testament to the power of positive thinking and the Sunshine Girls' unwavering spirit.

Our wet and wild adventure at Cambugahay Falls was a reminder that even when things don't go as planned, there's always a way to find joy and create unforgettable memories. We embraced the beauty of the falls, even in less-than-ideal conditions, and found a sense of accomplishment in conquering the rope swing and bamboo rafting. Our experience highlights the importance of a positive mindset, even when faced with adversity, and the power of friendship to overcome any obstacle. The Sunshine Girls' journey serves as an inspiration to embrace the unexpected and make the most of every adventure, rain or shine.
