I ♥ Ocean View Beach Resort - Subic Zambales 10/31/2010
There is nothing more satisfying than to spend an entire weekend on a beach with the company of some great friends. That's what we exactly did when we went to Subic. It was Jitjit’s birthday when he invited us to go to their place in Subic, Zambales. He’s been away in Manila for a year already and we really wanted to see him.
Gracia, Ken my sister (Badet) and me met in Market Market and went to Victory Liners Pasay bound to Olongapo. From Manila, we took the bus going to Subic. It was roughly a 3-hour trip. We weren’t bored the entire trip. Thanks to music; traveling long hours on the road is not much of a struggle. It’s touchdown in Subic Bay Freeport Zone at around 5pm.
We bought a birthday cake for Jitjit and met him in Goldilocks. Jitjit introduced Tomtom to us, his current love interest that time and we headed straight to their house to meet Jitjit’s family. We sang happy birthday before eating the food that was served to us. After dinner, Gracia wanted to go night swimming but Jitjit’s mom suggested we should sleep first and go to the beach tomorrow. Everyone was on a tight schedule so we insisted to go night swimming. Jitjit knows a resort near the area and we just go with the flow. We prepared our things and packed some leftover spaghetti and went to Ocean View Beach Resort.
We arrived in Ocean View Beach Resort around 9pm and we paid the entrance fee and asked if we could set up a tent. The receptionist told us that we need to pay 200 pesos for setting up a tent.We don’t have enough money to pay for a cottage we just pay the fee. The resort is very spacious and clean. It feels like we owned the resort exclusively.
One thing I just notice is their landscaping. It’s really disorganized. The white paint on the tables of the huts was peeled off making the tables look dirty. There were so many flies and dogs. Some of the restrooms have broken doors, toilets not flushing and a pool of dirty water as you take a bath. There were some faucets with no water to wash with. The sand wasn't white which was alright with us but the beach water is a bit murky. The resort will look very stylish if the owner only knew what a landscape artist is. The place really needs major improvements.
We set up our tent and enjoy the night swimming. We also drank some vodka and after a couple of laughs we headed back to our tent and rest for a while. We woke up early to go to Island hopping in Galleon Island.
The boatman who invited us for island hopping asked P900.00 for the six of us. We arrived in a rock island in the middle of the sea. It was really just a small piece of land with very slimy and sharp rocks. I enjoyed the place because it looks like a setting in a photo shoot. We take tons of pictures in the island and went back to Ocean Beach after 3 hours of travelling. We packed our things after and went back to Jitjit’s place and ate lunch and we went back to Olongapo terminal and ride a victory liner bus bound to Manila.
The Ocean View Beach may not have the finest sand bar, but the beach was relatively nice. It wasn’t white sand, although it appeared to be, dig deeper and it turns a darker shade. I didn’t swim much, but I did get to enjoy their island hopping. The best thing here is that you are with your friends enjoying each other’s company even if you are not in a cozy place.
How to get here
From Manila, you may take a bus routed to Olongapo city, from Olongapo townproper, I suggest to take take the Victory Liner bus from Metro Manila to Olongapo City, then from the Olongapo City bus terminal, take the yellow jeepney to Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA). I think Victory charges something between P200 to P300 (aircon) from Manila to Olongapo.
Subic (the SBMA, not the town) is a freeport zone located at the southern tip of Olongapo, Zambales. It features high class resorts with water sports facilities. It also houses the Ocean Adventure Park, Zoobic Safari and Tree Top Adventure Park. Other tourist attractions are the bat kingdom, Jungle Joe, Jest Camp. Subic has its own duty free shops and SM City Olongapo along Magsaysay Drive is now open. Olongapo is near the becoming famous hideaway Anawangin Cove ,Nagsasa Cove, and Capones Island.
